Comments we were given permission to print
These came in by email, on the back of a check-back form, or in one case scrawled on a scorecard left at the desk. We have included the lukewarm ones, because a page of unbroken praise is not information.
I came in convinced I needed a new putter and left with the one I already had, an inch and a half shorter and bent two flat. It cost me forty-five dollars. I had four hundred in my pocket ready to spend.
Tessa spent twenty minutes explaining why my stroke did not want the mallet everybody had been putting in my hands. Nobody had ever shown me a number for it before. The short putts stopped leaking right within a month.
The wedge session was uncomfortable in a useful way. Turns out I had been playing three wedges with the same bounce and blaming my technique for a club problem in August and a technique problem in April.
Honest review: the driver fitting gained me maybe nine yards, which is less than I hoped. What it actually did was cut my right miss roughly in half. I would take that trade again but I would go in with lower expectations about distance.
Marcus pulled and rebuilt my father's old irons rather than selling me a set. He also told me exactly which two heads were too far gone to bend again. I did not know that was a thing you could find out.
The full rebuild took three weeks and four trips across town, which is a lot to ask of a working schedule. Worth it, but plan for it. Do not book the first visit in the week before a member-guest.
I have had three fittings in my life and this is the first one where somebody measured what I already owned before showing me anything new. Obvious in hindsight. Nobody else did it.
Came back after a rotator cuff repair with clubs that no longer suited me at all. Lighter shafts, shorter irons, and a completely different putter length. Playing again by the following spring.
They told me my stroke was too inconsistent to fit around and that I should spend the money on lessons first. I was annoyed at the time. I went back eight months later and they were right.
Why we do not publish a star rating
Averaged ratings compress everything interesting out of feedback. A four-star note explaining that the rebuild took three weeks is more useful to somebody deciding whether to book than a five-star note saying "great experience", and an average of the two tells you nothing at all.
Every comment here was given with permission and is printed as written, with only surnames trimmed. Where a player asked to stay anonymous, we left their comment out rather than inventing initials.
If you have been through a session and want to add something, including something critical, send it to [email protected]. We publish the awkward ones too.
The most common outcome
Across our own logs, roughly one session in five ends with adjustments to clubs the player already owned and no new purchase at all. Another two in five end with a single club changing.
Second most common comment
That the session was longer and less exciting than expected. It is measurement work. There is a lot of tape.
